TBayTel Network Overview

The Algoma Cellular Telephone Project (CTP) was constructed and is operated by TBayTel.  The map at Fig. 1 above shows their network, including the coverage added as part of the CTP. The network is CDMA based and is compatible with Bell Mobility and Telus. Blackberry service is available.

GSM (used by Rogers) based technology service is available only in the major urban areas of Sault  Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.

 The area southeast from Hornepayne to Searchmont comprises the CTP area. To find out more about TBayTel go to TBayTel.

The CTP received with funding support from Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and FedNor.

The CTP developed a total of 15 cell sites located in or near communities and along Hwy 17 and Hwy 101. See Fig 2.

TBayTel completed the construction phase of the project with the activation of the cell site at Batchawana on July 22, 2007.

As of that date, the following sites are in-service:

Hornepayne, White River, Desolation Lake, Dubreuilville, Wawa, Chapleau, Hawk Junction,
Jackpine, Wangoon, Baldhead, Montreal River, Ryan, Batchawana, Bellevue and Searchmont.

ADnet continues to work on the  projects leading to filling gaps in the coverage along Hwy 17, Hwy 631 and Hwy 101.
