ADnet Restructuring

On May 19, 2011 the Algoma District Community Network (ADnet) became an all-volunteer organization.

It has been a struggle to keep the Algoma District Community Network (ADnet) on a sound financial footing for the past several years. The organization was unable to attain firm core funding commitments from any level of government and has relied on ever dwindling funds generated by projects and community membership.

The Board of Directors undertook a major review of the operations and in January 2011 and recommended that ADnet carry out a top to bottom restructuring. The final plan was approved at a General Meeting on March 15, 2011.

The highlights of the actions taken include:

a. Reduction of the of the official  membership to the Directors and staff serving as of March 15, 2011;

b. Amending By-law 1 to reduce  the number of Directors from  a total of twelve to a maximum of six and a minimum of three;

c. Asking staff to work on a volunteer basis after 31 May 2011.

The incumbent Directors agreed to serve while ADnet goes through the restructuring process and the invited Wilf Lefresne to serve as a Director in addition to his duties as Executive Director.  Darlene Walsh agreed to continue perform the staff administrative duties. All will serve without remuneration except for reimbursements to staff for costs of Internet access and a small stipend to help cover other indirect expenses.

ADnet will continue to monitor the ICT situation throughout the Algoma District and Northern Ontario. The
website and blog will be maintained to keep interested parties abreast of ongoing activities.

ADnet will remain prepared to take advantage of any opportunities which will offer the organization financial resources to pursue ICT projects beneficial to the District.

Even at this extremely reduced limited operational tempo, funds for critical items like Internet access and telephone expenses are still required. If any former members or community minded interests can contribute to the cause, please contact
Wilf Lefresne.
