Summary of North
and Central Algoma District ICT Coverage

reviwed 30 Sep 11
The
parts of North and Central Algoma District within the polygon of Chapleau, Sault
Ste. Marie, Wawa, White River
and
Hornepayne has extensive wireline and fixed wireless broadband (high speed)
Internet access and
cellular coverage.

The three major ISPs serving the area rolled out the broadband (high speed)
Internet as private sector ventures by Bell and Shaw for the wireline locales
and by Tbaytel, with funding assistance from NOHFC and FedNor, for the fixed
wireless locales.
Superior Wireless Inc (SWI), with NOHFC
assistance under ADnet sponsorship, installed the basic cellular network
infrastructure. When
Tbaytel acquired the SWI assets, they enhanced the network by filling in
coverage gaps and providing fixed wireless service, again with NOHFC and FedNor
assistance, as part of their Regional In-Fill (RIF) project.
In the addition to the above two public- private-partnerships, or P3, projects,
Tbaytel entered into a private sector agreement with Rogers to upgrade the
existing Tbaytel CDMA cellular network to the latest HSPA+ technology by
installing an overlay.
In summary the following services are available in the designated area.
